Wellington 15 yo's Lose Close One in Semi-Final
(TUESDAY) After a 24 hour rain delay, the bats were crackin' again in Junction City on Tuesday. Down to "4" teams and one would emerge as champion. In the opener, Parsons took easy care of Galena, winning 11-1 and advancing to the Championship Game which would match them up with the Wellington vs Liberal winner. Coach Struble reports the Wellington boys battled hard and never gave up but in the end undefeated Liberal took the win 9-6 and advanced to face Parsons for the BIG TROPHY. (Liberal would win the State Title for the 3rd straight year, final score vs Parsons 11-2)Julian Jimenez was named MVP after pitching 5 great innings for Wellington. DeAndre Washington rec'd the WOW Award for great defensive catches and great bat action at the plate. The loss ends this year's 15 yo All-Stars season - and ends play for them in the 13-15 yo Babe Ruth League...a good bunch of young athletes - you have represented well! Keep it goin' as you advance!

(SUNDAY) Good news from Junction City - the Wellington 15 yo All-Stars defeated a very strong Parsons team Sunday, 7-0 in the State Babe Ruth Tournament. This is pool play through Sunday and Wellington's win knotted their record (2-1) with the records of Chapman, who beat Wellington Friday and now Sunday Parsons, who lost to Wellington. The top 2 will advance to single elimination bracket play Monday and DRUM ROLL PLEASE...........our Wellington boys got the nod via pre-established tie-break criteria and will advance to Championship play Monday along with Parsons and the top 2 teams from the other pool (3-0 Liberal and 2-1 Galena). WOW - what a tournament and what a day for Wellington!! Jack Nuss went the distance on the mound for Wellington Sunday and was named MVP as well - Michael Ledbetter rec'd the WOW Award for a hard hit opposite field triple to right and several good defensive plays at third. Congrats to Jack and Michael! All these boys are on a roll - tough day ahead Monday - keep 'em in your thoughts and send WINNING VIBES towards Junction City - the Wellington Boys are in the HUNT and the huntin' is goin' to be good!! Hoot - Hoot!!!! Bracket play begins Monday at 10AM with Parsons squaring off against Galena. At 12:30PM, Wellington goes up against a very tough Liberal team. The two winners from those 2 games will vie for the State Title at 3:00PM today - GO WELLINGTON!!

(SATURDAY) Good news from Junction City - our 15 yo All-Stars defeated host Junction City Saturday at the State Babe Ruth Tournament - final score 12-2 and it took just 5 innings! In pool play, our boys are now 1-1, along with Chapman...Junction City falls to 0-2 and Parsons is 2-0. Wellington takes on Parsons Sunday @ 3:30PM - obviously an important contest! The top 2 teams from this pool of "4" and the top 2 from the other pool will square off on Monday in single elimination bracket play for the State Championship. That winner Monday will advance on to the MWP Regional Tournament in Burlington, CO. Congratulations Saturday also to Matt Rinehart, MVP and Grey Hatfield, the WOW Award recipient...awesome job gentlemen - way to go Wellington - take it to Parsons Sunday!!! Good Luck!

MIDWEST PLAINS REGIONAL BASEBALL TOURNAMENT LIVE STREAM FROM COLORADO

(SATURDAY) Good win today by our Wellington 16-18 yo's at the Babe Ruth Midwest Plains Regional being played in Holyoke, Colorado. The "DUKES" downed Lamar, CO 6-3 in 8 innings. Wellington's Cade Phelps was named PLAYER OF THE GAME. Cade went the distance on the mound, allowed just 4 hits, struck out 10 and allowed just 1 earned run. The PLAY OF THE GAME award went to Wellington's Therin Frame who laid out to snag a line drive at short stop early in the contest. Congratulations to Wellington on their win today!
Unfortunately, in their pool, although 3 of the 4 teams were 1-2 overall, (including Wellington) using established tie-breaker criteria, Lamar will advance to Single Elimination Bracket Play on Sunday, along with the other pool team Missouri (who went 3-0) over the past 3 days. Good tournament Wellington - we are proud of the way you represented yourselves and your community!!

(FRIDAY) In 16-18 yo Midwest Plains Regional Baseball action, the Wellington Dukes fall to 0-2 in pool play - final score Friday: Missouri 21 Wellington 7 (5 innings). Derek Driskell at shortstop was lauded for the "play of the game". Pool play continues today for Wellington when they go up against Colorado at 2:00PM.

(THURSDAY) Wellington 16-18 YO's lose pool play opener 4-9 vs East Twins, MN. Next up Missouri at 1:30PM Friday and then Colorado @ 2:00PM Saturday. The Top 2 teams from the 2 pools will advance to Single Elimination Bracket Play on Sunday for the Regional Championship. The play of the game was a dynamic double play pulled off by Wellington involving Therin Frame, Connor Burnett and Chevy Nuss!

WELLINGTON 15 YO'S ARE DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!

The Wellington 15 YO All-Stars made it 3 for 3 on Sunday afternoon, winning easily in the Babe Ruth District Tournament here in Wellington, featuring Wellington and 4 other teams (SEK, Derby, Rose Hill and Clearwater) Julian Jimenez was on the mound (pictured) for Wellington and went the distance (4 innings) in the 24-0 run rule victory for the boys in red. Julian was named MVP for that and great aggressive base running and scoring as well. The WOW Award went to Caleb Reichenberger, among other things, he smacked a solid triple to left to add to the 2nd inning attack when Wellington scored 16 runs to jump out to a 20-0 lead...when it's over, it's over. Clearwater had played just before the Championship Game, beating Rose Hill in a tight contest to advance 8-7. The double-header wore heavily on the boys in blue though who's lack of aggressive play and lack of pitching took it's toll early in the championship finale. Wellington will advance now to the State 13-15 yo Tournament later this week in Junction City where they will square off against Chapman at 2:30PM Friday afternoon. Other teams at State will include Liberal, Cottonwood Valley, Chanute, host Junction City and 3 others yet to be identified on the bracket. 15 YO'S WILL PLAY FOR DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY!
District Tourney

In Wellington's District Tourney debut on Saturday, Derby lead 8-7 early on after a see-saw battle but the Wellington 15 yo All-Stars began pulling away in the 3rd inning and by the 6th, were able to run-rule Derby 21-11 for victory #1 in District Babe Ruth Play at Sellers. The 5 Team double elimination tournament wraps up today with the winner heading north to Junction City next weekend for the 15 YO State Tournament. Jack Nuss was named MVP and Matt Rinehart rec'd the WOW Award! Congrats to both of these fine players and fine team! In Wellington's 2nd game Saturday, the 15 YO's defeated Clearwater 12-2 to advance to the District Championship Game today @ 3PM. Wellington at 2-0 will have to lose twice today to lose the trip to the State Tournament. MVP honors in the 12-2 win over Clearwater went to Matt Rinehart and WOW Award recognition to Jack Nuss. It was day #2 of 4 for the 10yo Cal Ripken State Tournament participants out at Worden Park this weekend. A couple of rain-delayed games from Thursday were made up Friday and as of Friday evening the tournament is back on schedule. Opening Ceremonies, originally slated for Thursday took place Friday night just prior to the nightcap game. The tournament is a pool play format with the top 2 teams from each pool playing in a single elimination championship bracket on Sunday.

Action at the State (Round-Robin) Tournament in Ft. Scott got underway Friday. Our Wellington 9 YO's battled hard but came up short against Dodge City 0-8 and Cottonwood Valley 8-20. In the Dodge City contest, Riley Payne was named MVP and Al Norris received the WOW Award. In the CVL contest, MVP honors went to James Redford and WOW Award to Chance Thomas. Congrats to all! In Saturday action, Ft. Scott downed Wellington 12-2 and Pittsburg came out on top 15-5. In those two contests respectively, MVP Chance Thomas / WOW Award Milo Elder and MVP Axl Norris / WOW Award not posted. On Sunday, the 9 YO's lost a close one to Liberal 7-9. In that finale for Wellington, Grady Norris was selected as MVP and Reid Walker rec'd the WOW Award. No bracket play with this tourney, top 3 finishers after Sunday in pool play will be determined by the Babe Ruth League Tie-Breaker Formula. (Those teams are not noted on bracket so don't have overall outcomes)

WELLINGTON 12 YO's @ Pittsburg (STATE TOURNEY)
On Thursday, Wellington lost to Galena 1-6. MVP Honors went to Carson Nugen and WOW Award to Chauncey Thomas. On Friday, Wellington came up short against Gas Capital 3-13. MVP Honors went to Hagen Wright and WOW Award to Kenny Redford. On Saturday, Wellington wrapped up pool play losing to SPIAA 18-5 and Independence 10-0. In the former, MVP was Logan Swingle and WOW Award recipient Blake McCreary. In the latter, MVP honors went to Chauncey Thomas and WOW Award to Colt Corley. Wellington did not qualify for single elimination bracket play on Sunday but DID WIN THE SPORTSMANSHIP TROPHY FOR THE TOURNAMENT - awesome!! In the end, Pittsburg, Galena, Girard and Independence made it to bracket play. When the dust settled, Pittsburg was State Champion, downing Girard 7-6 to grab the honor. Congrats to Wellington for hard play and for playing honorably! Chins up!!

The Wellington boys came up short against a superb team (and host) Pittsburg on Friday - final score Wellington 4 Pittsburg 14. MVP honors went to John Long, WOW Award recipient was Zane Cornejo. Wellington played again Saturday at 2:30PM vs Cottonwood Valley. In that Saturday contest vs Cottonwood Valley, our 14 yo's pulled out a squeaker 16-14. Congrats to Eric Goodrum MVP honoree and Silas Popplewell the WOW Award recipient in that game. On Sunday, the Wellington boys squared off against Frontenac and kapow, won that 15-7. Zane Cornejo was selected MVP and Eric Goodrum received the WOW Award. The top 2 teams out of each pool after Sunday play advanced to today's (Monday) single elimination bracket to determine the State Champion. Wellington, 2-1 in pool play made the cut and went up against Liberal. Wellington, up 3-2 in the 6th gave up 4 runs and Liberal pulled out the win 6-3.Gage Cunningham was named MVP and Julian Burden rec'd the WOW Award! Congrats to both! Liberal went on to beat Ft. Scott in the Championship Final 10-4 to claim the 14 yo State Babe Ruth Title.

WELLINGTON 15 YO's @ Wellington (DISTRICT TOURNEY)
Mother Nature pushed the start of this district tourney on Thursday to Friday. In opening action Friday, Clearwater defeated Rose Hill 13-3 and Derby defeated SEK 5-3. The Wellington 15 YO's took the field Saturday at NOON (@ Sellers) vs Derby and after a back and forth early battle, Wellington pulled away with a run-rule 6th inning final score 21-11. Next up for Wellington on Saturday was Clearwater who Wellington defeated 12-2 to advance to the District Championship game Sunday. Wellington, now at 2-0 in tourney play would have to lose twice Sunday to not qualify for the State Tournament in Junction City this coming weekend. That would not happen. JUST IN: Wellington's 16-18 yo's have won the STATE 16-18 BABE RUTH TOURNAMENT at Hesston, defeating Liberal today 7-5. The team will advance now to Regional Play at Holyoke Colorado beginning Thursday!
On Friday, Wellington came up short against Liberal 10-12. Chantz Daugherty was selected MVP and Chevy Nuss rec'd the WOW Award. In Day #2 action Saturday - what a game!! In a 15 inning thriller, Wellington defeated Abilene 6-5...more details soon! Pool play continues Sunday, Wellington will go up against Moundridge at 10AM. The top 2 teams from each pool will advance to single elimination bracket play on Monday to determine the State Champion...stay tuned! As of 6AM Monday, no additional info available via internet bracket for this tournament. The Wellington girls split on Friday, losing to Girard 3-6 but coming back later in the day to defeat SPIAA 5-4. In the Girard contest, SHE Award honors went to Sullivan Parkey! In the SPIAA, those honors went to Sophie Parkey! Play continued Saturday vs Lyons and Arma and again a split. In Saturday's first game Lyons defeated Wellington 17-5. Addison Fox was the SHE Award recipient! In the 2nd game Saturday, Wellington bounced back to win 20-6 over Arma. Congrats to Madison Baker for her SHE Award! Wellington finished 2-2 in pool play and the top teams from each pool were to play Sunday for the championship.
