@ PIONEER LEAGUE TOURNEY

The Wellington Middle School girls tennis team competed in the Pioneer League Tournament at Ark City on Tuesday. The Lady Knights defeated seven other teams to bring home the championship trophy. Wellington finished on top with 132 team points, while their next closest competitor, Andover Central, had 90. "These girls have had a common goal of winning league since day one of practice. It is great to see their hard work all season pay off for them today." Individual winners are as follows: 1st place: Olivia Sneed - #1 Singles, Kailey Jenkins/Ashley Collins - #1 Doubles, Savannah Cornejo/Ciarra Myers - #2 Doubles, Shanlyn Hefley/Megan Campbell - #3 Doubles, Hannah Hillebrand/Jaden DeJarnett - #4 Doubles; 2nd place: Kelsey Whaley - #2 Singles, Erica Linnebur - #3 Singles and 4th place: Kaitlyn Utt - #4 Singles. The Wellington Middle School girls tennis team competed in the 16-team Winfield Invitational on Friday. The Lady Knights had a tremendous tournament finishing in 2nd place overall, just 2 points short of 1st. "These girls played hard all day, giving everything they had in every match", Coach Driskell reported. Results are as follows: Olivia Sneed - #1 Singles - 1st place, Kelsey Whaley - #2 Singles - 2nd place, Kailey Jenkins and Ashley Collins - #1 Doubles - 3rd place and Savannah Cornejo and Ciarra Myers - 1st place - #2 Doubles. The Lady Knights will finish their season on Tuesday with the top 12 players competing for the Pioneer League Title in Ark City. Good luck girls!!!
