WELLINGTON IS STATE-BOUND!
Tied after 5 innings with 3 runs a piece, the "Wellington"
Crusaders busted loose for "4" runs in the 6th and
"4" runs in the 7th to send the "Buhler" Crusaders home
packin' up for the season. Matt Ricke, in relief of starter
Tyler Ybarra, was the winning pitcher behind some excellent
hitting across the  board. Calder Cody went 3 for 4 w/ a triple,
Kevin Crow 2 for 4 w/ a double. Also getting "2" hits were
Nate Keller, Tanner Ybarra, Kerby Hefley, and Acy Ybarra for a
game total of "13". Dylan Bowman & Tanner Ybarra combined
in the 7th in relief to secure the victory. The Crusaders head
north to Salina on Friday, May 26th for
4A State Tournament Action!
SPECIAL NOTE: SENIOR KERBY HEFLEY now holds the
WHS Baseball record for most singles in a season.
Kerby connected for his 25th, passing '94 graduate
Jeremy Troutman and '00 graduate Colt Cody who
had held the record with 24. EXCELLENT KERBY!

A big "5" run 2nd inning put the Crusaders in the lead and
the BIG RED Machine hung on to it, despite a decent
comeback attempt in later innings by the Indians. Behind
winning pitcher Matt Stalcup, the boys in red lit up the
Clearwater pitchers for 9 hits - 2 hits a piece for Devin
Dawson and Acy Ybarra, 1 hit each for Trenton Rains,
Calder Cody, Matt Stalcup, Nate Keller and Kerby Hefley.
Keller's hit was good for a double and Hefley's for a
triple. Matt Ricke pitched in relief for the save. With the
semi-final victory, the Crusaders advanced on
to the Championship Game with Buhler.

The Lady Crusader's superb effort came up just short in a hard
fought "stay close" contest that could have gone either way. The
Ladies in RED have come to life these past few days, outscoring
their opponents over the last four games 29 - 12. Congratulations
for a very good finish to the season - an excellent foundation to
build on in 2007! Good Job Ladies!

In first round REGIONAL action the Crusaders run-rule Regional
Host Pratt to advance to 2nd round play Wednesday @ Nickerson
vs Clearwater @ 4:30pm. Tanner Ybarra went the distance for the win,
walking 3 and striking out 6 - Kevin  Crow set the pace in the first
inning with a bases loaded triple going 2 for 4 on the day.
Kerby Hefley and Calder Cody added 2 hits each as well to
help lead the Crusaders to the 6 inning victory. The Crusaders
were down "1" after 4 innings - a "9" run 5th sealed the deal.

In first round REGIONAL action the Lady Crusaders defeated
the Ladies from Haven to advance to 2nd round play Tuesday
vs. Andale @ 4:45pm. The ladies were down "1" going into
 the 7th inning - they scored "4" to secure the big win!
Cierra Gonzales and Madison Hughes went 3 for 4,
Jessica Miller 2 for 2 at the plate to lead the Ladies to the come
from behind victory! With the score tied in the 5th at 2 - 2,
Rebecca Ryherd came in to relieve game starter Denae Weber to
secure the win for the Lady Crusaders!

The Crusaders jumped out to a first inning 7-3 lead and held on
to chalk up their first win since April 3rd against Clearwater. Nate Keller went 2 for 4 (1 Home Run) and Tanner Ybarra 3 for 5 at the plate to account for 5 of the Crusaders 9 hits overall. Tanner Ybarra was also the winning pitcher - Kerby Hefley pitched relief in the 5th inning for the save!

Tanner Ybarra and Kevin Crow lead the hitting for the boys in red - 3 for 4 and 2 for 3 respectively. Kevin Crow was the losing pitcher, Tyler Ybarra pitched in relief after four innings. The Crusaders are on the road Monday to Andover, and are now 3 - 5 on the season.
