Senior J'lynn Ledesma tied for first in the high jump at 5' 5" and in a subsequent tie-break
jump, J'Lynn cleared 5' 7" (1.70m) and the other jumper from Olathe-East (6-A state
champion) missed. There were 34 girls
in the event. The 3rd place finisher was the state
champion from Missouri (Plattsmouth) and the 4th place finisher
was the state champion
from Nebraska (Center). The last Wellington athlete to bring home the gold was in
1973
and it was Terry Glenn in the 2 mile run.

The Wellington Middle School boys tennis team participated in the Ark City Invitational yesterday. There were 15 teams competing from Kansas and Oklahoma. The top 6 players from Wellington competed in pool and bracket play, with the top 4 in each division earning a medal. Although facing tough competition, the #1 doubles team of Nick Becker and Brian Peck went 5-1 to earn a 3rd place medal. Other players competing, but not medaling were: #2 doubles: Ethan Carroll and Anthony Arellano 2-2; #1 singles: Matt Hughes 0-3; #2 singles: Baxter Defore 1-2. Congratulations on a fine tournament.

The Wellington Middle School Boys Tennis Team hosted their first meet yesterday against Haysville Middle School. The Knights fought hard, but came up a little short in team points being defeated 13-10. "For many of the players this was their first tennis match ever, so we are proud of their effort" Coach Driskell stated Friday. The Knights next match will be at home on Monday against El Dorado. Yesterday's winners are as follows:
