There are "16" WHS Crusader Track & Field athletes (and 3 alternates) with bigger smiles than usual on their faces as Graduation and the end of the 2018-2019 school year rapidly approaches. All "16" and "3" alternates (listed below), qualified for next Friday (May 24th) and Saturday's (May 25th) State Track 1A-6A Meet at Cessna Stadium @ WSU. Additionally, "6" of those "16" are 2019 REGIONAL 4A Champions!!
WHS Class Night is a time to pay tribute and honor the many achievements of the present graduating class at Wellington High School. The list of achievements is long for this group of graduates, a class that has excelled in areas all up and down the spectrum - a classy bunch!
WHS Senior Zellissa Johnson signed on Monday to attend Cowley College and be a member of their DANCE TEAM beginning this Fall! Present at the signing were Zellissa's folks, Ivan and Alia Johnson. Also Lindsay Sanderholm (Cowley Dance Coach) and Alyssa Butler (Simply Elite School of Dance and Gymnastics)

Coach Ginter reports, "today the Crusader golf team finished second at the 4A regional golf tournament at Tallgrass Country Club in Wichita qualifying the team for the state tournament to be held at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield next Monday. I was very proud of our young men today and their performance on a golf course that played very tough. Blake Saffell was the individual 4A Regional Champion for the second consecutive year, winning on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.
The WMS Knights and Lady Knights, after only having "2" meets during the regular season due to rain and more rain, had only sunshine and a light breeze to deal with at the 2019 Patriot League Track Meet at Rose Hill Monday. (This meet had been postponed twice last week). All the results and many pics below - brought to you by a much kinder and gentler Mother Nature, thus far this week anyway. :)
I don't do ATHLETE OF THE WEEK picks, etc...if I did though, Tyler Brown (WHS JR) would be my choice this go-round. This young man participates in "2" Spring Sports, Tennis & Track. This is Tyler's 1st year to play Tennis and is part of the Wellington Regional 4A Championship Tennis Team that qualified for the State 4A Tennis Meet in Pratt.
ON FRIDAY:
Tyler played "2" rounds of State 4A Tournament (Singles) Tennis in Pratt, late morning to early afternoon.
STATE 4A BOYS TENNIS in Pratt. (SATURDAY UPDATE)
John Long and Kade Adams came up short against Pennington / Bigilius of Wichita Trinity this morning, at the State 4A Boys Tennis Tournament in Pratt, losing 3-9 and ending their 2019 Season! Congrats to both and to Hunter Bryant and Tyler Brown! All "4" will return next year as will numerous other tennis talents - many more good things to come on the courts at Wellington!!
