Crusaders Season Ends / Jaguars Advance

The Varsity Crusaders 2021 season ends but with some positive moments, this week and last for sure. In the first half at Andover Central, the defense was solid and surprised the Jaguars with numerous stops, forcing punts and turnovers. Some miscues on offense took away opportunities to score and by halftime, the home team Jaguars began to pull away. One highlight for me at the game, as departing, I heard what appeared to be two Jaguar dads talking about Wellington as I made my way through a small crowd of folks. "Wellington has a lot of tradition, and I admire that".

Wellington defeats Buhler 25-23, 25-15

Boys Cross Country Team is 4A State-Bound!

Saturday was a phenomenal day for the WHS Cross Country program. Not only did Freshman Lady Crusader Taylor Earl place 27th out of a field of 48 runners, in the GIRLS 5K, seven Crusaders, as a team, finished 3rd out of a field of 8 teams and will be heading north to Wamego, as a team, this coming Saturday. Congratulations to Head Coach Jaedyn Ledesma Showman, and coaches Charles Wallace and Timothy Green. They shined, the team shined, and smiles were plentiful as the final standings were announced.

Crusaders Battle Hard - Come Up Short @ Mulvane!

The Crusaders jumped out early on Mulvane and had the opportunity in the 2nd qtr for a 3 TD lead, but it wasn't to be. That drive was halted, Mulvane scored and scored again to knot it at 20 at the half. Opportunities presented themselves in the 2nd half, but in the end, Mulvane would outscore and outplay the Crusaders for the 40-26 Week 8 victory, advancing to a 6-2 record, the Crusaders, 2-5. Scoring for Wellington was Montel Tate (twice), Cope Henry, and RJ Clift, all on passing plays from either Dusty Bannister or Malachi Rogers.
