Wellington Tennis competes in Collegiate Tournament of Champions

On September 23, Lady Crusader Tennis attended the Wichita Collegiate Tournament of Champions, the notoriously tough tournament with several 5A and 6A schools. Wellington finished 11th of 17 teams with doubles partners Lyric and Cruz Cornejo leading the team finishing 13th, followed by Kadynce Aufdengarten and Logan Robinson finishing 14th after going head-to-head with the Cornejo sisters. In the Singles bracket, Kyra Cornejo placed 23rd and Addie Hinshaw placed 28th. Wellington’s 50 points landed the team just behind the highest 4A placer at the tournament, McPherson, at 54 points.

After a tough stretch of road games the Crusaders made their home debut against the Labette County Grizzlies. The evening got off to a shocking start. The Crusaders started in their traditional red jerseys for warmups, then when it came time to run across the bridge and begin the game they pulled a jersey switch donning new dark gray jerseys!
