Meet the 2024 WHS Girls Tennis Team!

It was "Media Day" for the Lady Crusader Tennis program this evening!  Coaches Aufdengarten and Adams have 17 girls out for the team this season, nearly half of which are plucky freshmen!  Returning players include the four seniors Kadynce Aufdengarten, Addie Hinshaw, Sullivan Parkey, and Scout Douglas; juniors Cruz Cornejo, Logan Robinson, and Jordan Koehn (not pictured); and sophomores Scotlyn Ewing and Ellie Hays.  They're joined by eight freshmen, Sienna Goodrum, Gracie Thomson, Addi Thomson, Georgia Shinliver, Emma Norris, Laney Meeker, Berkeley Easterberg, and Madalynn Wonser.

Annual WHS Volleyball Alumni Gatorade Scrimmage slated for August 29

UPDATE: Due to a change in the football scrimmage, the volleyball scrimmage will now start at 4:30pm!

The annual WHS Volleyball scrimmage event is on the books for next Thursday, August 29, at WHS!  Come watch the high school teams compete against each other and with an alumni team in this showcase event.  If you feel moved to donate a pack of water or Gatorade to the team, all the better!  The team takes these donated drinks with them on the road to their many weekend tournaments throughout the season.  

Girls powerlifters receive CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS

On March 2 this year, Wellington hosted the 4A State Powerlifting Meet during which the Lady Crusaders lifted enough weight as a team to earn their spot at the top of the podium, and now their CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS have arrived!!  In a small gathering this afternoon in the freshly painted weight room, Coach Matthew Mason presented his lifters with hefty rings with "STATE CHAMPIONS" emblazoned on the face with the Crusader logo set in the middle.  On one side, it reads "Wellington Crusaders 2024" with a weight plate, and on the other side is the student athlete's name, a barbell, and "11,275 lb

Four Crusaders earn seven medals, Zeka becomes State Champ twice-over

A whopping 24 Crusaders qualified in various events for the 4A State Track Meet held this past weekend, and four of those athletes (Kylan Gregory, Dru Zeka, Isabelle Cullens, and Cooper Hatfield) earned a total of seven medals in their individual events.

Dru Zeka, a freshman, is the 2024 4A STATE CHAMPION in both High Jump and the 400m Dash, and she earned 5th place in Long Jump.  Senior Isabelle Cullens is the Runner-Up in Triple Jump and took 6th Place in Pole Vault.  Sophomores Kylan Gregory and Cooper Hatfield earned 6th in High Jump and 7th in the 400m Dash, respectively.  

Golf team advances to Day 2 of State, Rausch medals

After taking 3rd place in the Wellington-hosted regional tournament, the WHS Boys Golf Team advanced to 4A State hosted in McPherson on May 20-21.  The boys eked out a first day result good enough for the second 18 holes the next day.  Their combined results placed the team at 6th in the tournament, and junior Derek Rausch tied for 11th place, which earned him a State medal!

Congratulations to these Crusaders for qualifying for State, and to Derek Rausch for his state medal!

Wellington High School graduates 115 students in May 12 commencement ceremony

WHS held its commencement last Sunday, May 12.  The graduation ceremony was planned for the high school main gymnasium this year due to the ongoing football field improvements.  Senior Class President Derrick Lowe presented the "senior thoughts," the Crusader Singers performed James Taylor's "That Lonesome Road" arranged Julie Knowles, and the band was on-hand to perform "Pomp and Circumstance," etc.

WHS Softball Season Photos

The Wellington Crusader Softball Team finished their season with a 6-16 record with wins over Ark City, Buhler (twice), Augusta, Belle Plaine, and El Dorado.  Returning assistant coach Millie Angleton was joined by new coaching hires Ashley Shuck, Delaney Miller, and Hannah Lawlis (head coach).  The team is fairly young and only graduated four seniors from the program this year: Madison Baker, Anika Fairbanks, Addison Fox, and Kate Haines.
