Last weekend marked the end of the very first boys swim season for WHS.  Two sophomores, Rome Hunt and Ralph Cornejo were able to participate in the sport through a cooperative agreement with Winfield, like senior girls swim athlete Jensen Lynnes has done before them.

In this final weekend of swimming for Hunt and Cornejo, the pair were competing at the AVCTL League Meet held in Hutchinson at the YMCA.  This was the first opportunity for the Crusaders to swap out their pink Viking caps for one emblazoned "Wellington."  Since they compete as Wellington High School athletes at this event, they are ineligible to join Winfield on the relay teams they have swum with throughout the regular season and instead only compete in their favored individual events.  For Rome that was the 50 Free and 100 Free, while Ralph swam the 100 Fly and 50 Free (making it to the meet coming off a few days of illness).

This newly-minted team of two scored points in all four events they swam in, earning Team Wellington a cumulative score of 43 points which was good enough for 7th place of 9 teams at League!  Detailed results are below!

We in Wellington are especially grateful to Winfield for their continued partnership with Wellington High School's swim athletes and wish a hearty good luck to Rome and Ralph's Viking teammates who qualified for State and will be attending the Boys State Championships for Swimming & Diving starting today through February 18!
