A game never in question Monday evening. The WHS JV Football squad hosted their counterparts from Labette Co. and the outcome was clear early on. Labette shot themselves in the foot, numerous times, to make any semblance of a competitive game impossible. The Grizzlies did display some nice passing plays but overall, never got anything to click on either side of the ball for very long. Down 59-6 at halftime, it would be a running clock from then on.
One general example of early action that doomed the visitors chances severely. In one approx. 30 sec. sequence, WHS scored, kicked off, Labette fumbled the kickoff, Wellington scored on next play, WHS kicked off, Labette fumbled that kickoff, Wellington picked up the ball and ran it in for 6 more. So, in about the same amount of time it would take to grab a burger and drink at the concession stand, WHS added 3 quick TD's that sealed the deal big time.
To Labette's credit, they didn't give up and the game went on. Something folks may not know, Labette fed our boys on Friday, in turn, the Crusaders fed the Grizzlies last night. That's worthy of mention. Sports are not all about competition.
Final score was LABETTE 6 WHS 65 - great job Crusaders - 10 TD's scored - so many I don't dare try to list them all, I'll leave someone out. Check out the pictures at the link below, you'll get a good feel for how the game proceeded. There were far more smiles on the west side of the field than the east. CONGRATS BIG RED!
