Wellington hosted Buhler and Andale for a volleyball triangular Thursday night, and the Varsity and JV outcomes pretty much mirrored each other. Wellington was able to overcome the Buhler teams (Varsity in three sets, JV in two), then Andale dominated the courts for the rest of the night. However, to simply report the scores would be to scratch the surface. This is a very young volleyball squad, and they are a very fun group to watch, from the players resting up on the bench to the coaches and to those standing on the court. The coaching staff have built a tight-knit community in this team; they celebrate each other and pick each other up. On this night, the Varsity team sported temporary wrist tattoos of a small volleyball and the word "FIGHT" in bold script. (JV had volleyballs with "trust" in cursive)
And FIGHT they do! Varsity had to fight their way back from a loss in the first game against Buhler, but even when there were setbacks on the court, this Wellington team kept getting back up and had no quit. "Fight" is one of the words the team uses to end their huddles. The other? "Family." When they are at their best, two other words come to mind when watching this group: TENACIOUS and JOYOUS. Come out to see them in their next home action on October 18! It's Senior Night!!
WELLINGTON v. Buhler 20-25, 25-20, 25-18 WIN
Andale v. Buhler 25-7, 25-13 (Andale Win)
WELLINGTON v. Andale 22-25, 14-25 Loss
This brings the current Varsity season record to 10-17.
WELLINGTON v. Buhler 25-23, 29-27 WIN
Andale v. Buhler 25-17, 25-23 (Andale Win)
WELLINGTON v. Andale 17-25, 10-25 Loss
The coaches shared this pic with us of Crusader Fan Extraordinaire Keith Finley giving the team a pep talk! Thanks, Keith!
