Homecoming Basketball Roundup


The Wellington basketball teams squared off against the Circle Thunderbirds on homecoming night February 3.  This was the second meeting between the boys varsity team and Circle.  They earlier played in the Championship of the Roadrunner Classic, in which the Thunderbirds eked out a 1-point win over the Crusaders in the final seconds after trailing the entire game.  The girls varsity team last played Circle in the Sub-state Championship last season.

WHS Lifters excel in Goddard virtual meet

The WHS Powerlifting Team participated in their second meet of the season with another virtual meet, this time hosted by Goddard High School.  The women's team took 3rd, and the men's team took 5th overall in the meet which boasted nearly 530 lifters.  The Crusaders had a several individuals place in the top 3 of their weight division, and the coaches reported that nearly every Wellington powerlifter PR'ed at this meet. Winter Homecoming kicks off this week, culminating in the Duke coronation at halftime of the varsity boys basketball game Friday night versus Circle.  The Duke candidates were announced a week ago Friday, and the traditional WELLINGTON.CC formal candidate photos were taken this afternoon!

Lady Crusaders fend off Mulvane to win Wildcat Classic

The Lady Crusaders are bringing home the championship plaque from the Wildcat Classic for the second straight year!  One-seed Wellington played host #3 Mulvane on Saturday night for first place.  The Wildcats put up a mighty fight, at one point closing within four points of Wellington, but the Lady Crusaders kept up the pressure defensively and ran away with the game in the fourth quarter to cinch the game with a 16-point lead.  

Three players from Wellington made the All-Tournament selections: sophomores Britt Zeka and Val Norwood and freshman Kylan Gregory.

Wellington hosts varsity tourney

Wellington hosted a varsity and girls invitational tournament this past weekend, December 10.  Results are below, and we have MANY PICS thanks in large part to WHS wrestler and former yearbook staff member Conner Walker.  Conner, with an assist by fellow wrestler Derrick Lowe, took all the photos of the morning matches while the camera was in Andover for swimming.  Thanks so much, Conner and teammates, for pics from this meet and previous meets!  We appreciate you!!
